Come Back to the Simple Yes
Share
Scripture:
“Let your ‘Yes’ be yes, and your ‘No,’ no.”
— Matthew 5:37
There’s a quiet exhaustion that comes from overcomplicating faith.
We overthink our calling.
We overanalyze our purpose.
We wait for clarity, certainty, or permission—when Jesus is often just asking for a simple yes.
Not a perfect yes.
Not a loud yes.
Just an honest one.
Jesus never asked His disciples to have it all figured out. He didn’t hand them five-year plans or detailed roadmaps. He simply said, “Follow Me.” And somehow, that was enough.
Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to believe that faith has to be impressive to be effective. That we need to know more, do more, be more before we step forward. But real faith usually starts small—often quietly—often unseen.
A yes to love when it’s inconvenient.
A yes to obedience when it’s uncomfortable.
A yes to trust when the outcome is unclear.
Your daily bread today isn’t about the future—it’s about this moment.
God isn’t asking you to solve everything. He’s asking you to return to simplicity. To strip away the noise, the pressure, the performance—and come back to a surrendered heart.
If all you have today is a whispered prayer, that’s enough.
If all you can offer is faith the size of a mustard seed, that’s enough.
If all you can say is, “God, I’m here,” that’s enough.
He can work with that.
So today, let your yes be simple.
Let it be honest.
Let it be rooted in trust, not fear.
That’s where transformation begins.
Reflection
Where have you been waiting for certainty when God is asking for trust?
Prayer
God, help me return to a simple faith. Strip away what doesn’t matter and give me the courage to say yes—right where I am, just as I am. Amen.
